I’m very excited that an article I wrote for American Bungalow magazine made the cover of the Winter 2013 Issue #80! The article is about an amazing home on the Oregon Coast that sits on a secluded cove with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the rugged Oregon coastline and a 1920s-era bridge that was part of the original Oregon Coast Highway. American Bungalow has posted the full article on their website, and you can read it here.
My in-laws are friends with the owners of the home and I had always been curious about what it looked like inside. After starting this website, I was even more curious to see the inside and perhaps write about it. The owners are lovely people and they graciously welcomed me into their home. We sat and talked for a good couple of hours, and they encouraged me to take as many photos as I wanted while they walked me through every room. This home is special. Not just because of its location, but because its design is outstanding as well. Many of the home’s details were inspired by homes designed by Greene & Greene in Southern California, as well as Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman Farms in New Jersey.
I quickly realized that an article about this home needed a bigger stage than my website could provide, so armed with photos of the home, I approached the editors of American Bungalow with the idea of writing an article about the home for the magazine. I was thrilled when I was informed that not only did they want me to write the article, but they would be sending their Principal Photographer, Alexander Vertikoff, to Oregon to photograph it!!
I’m really pleased with how the article turned out and getting to see Alex work was a real treat as well. The home and site are jaw-droppingly beautiful, and Alex’s photos really bring that to life on the page. The Winter 2013 Issue #80 is on newstands now, and if you’re a subscriber, it should be arriving in your mailbox any day now. Wow, what a gorgeous house! And the setting – amazing. If that isn’t the dream, I don’t know what is! Congratulations and I’m looking forward to reading the full article.

David, Congratulations on getting the cover article in the current issue of American Bungalow. I finally got to see the print version and I love the take on your experience of the project. There were a few facts from the owner’s perspective I didn’t know.
The Vertikoff photographs are pure eye candy. Were you able to attend the shoot? It would have been an invaluable education to watch a master photographer at work.
I didn’t see any credit for the general contractor.

Thanks Tom, I’m glad you enjoyed the article. Alex’s photos are spectacular, and I did get to tag along with him during the shoot. He’s seen and photographed just about everything when it comes to craftsman homes, but I could tell that he was really fond of this one, and that’s a real credit to Dave & Pam’s vision and your impeccable design. So congrats to you as well!

This article combines two of my favorite things in the world, Craftsman Bungalows and the Oregon Coast. I am definitely going to order a this back issue so I can see the interior pictures. It is a shame that since you wrote the article, someone has built a monstrosity of a house next door, really detracting from the original aesthetic.
